The following verses reveal how believers living under grace are actually persecuted by a world religious system that insists we are living under the law as a rule of life. Discover what true freedom in Christ really means....
It has come to our attention that some went out from us without our authorization and unsettled your minds by what they said.
Then some men came down from Judea and were teaching the brothers, "Unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved."
which is not even a gospel. Evidently some people are troubling you and trying to distort the gospel of Christ.
This issue arose because some false brothers were brought in under false pretenses to spy on our freedom in Christ Jesus, in order to enslave us.
I am confident in the Lord that you will take no other view. The one who is troubling you will bear the judgment, whoever he may be. For as much as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, You must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment:
But it was because of the false brethren secretly brought in, who had sneaked in to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, in order to bring us into bondage.
Christ is become of no effect to you, whoever of you are justified by works of the law.
For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially those of the circumcision.
1 John 2:19
They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, so that it would be shown that they all are not of us.
Those who desire to make a good showing in the flesh try to compel you to be circumcised, simply so that they will not be persecuted for the cross of Christ.
Even from your own number, men will rise up and distort the truth to draw away disciples after them.
Then the Lord said: "Because these people draw near with their mouths and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me, worship of me has become merely like rules taught by human beings.
These people honor Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me.
They worship Me in vain; they teach as doctrine the precepts of men.'"
Jesus answered them, "Isaiah prophesied correctly about you hypocrites, as it is written: 'These people honor Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me.
They worship Me in vain; they teach as doctrine the precepts of men.'
These will all perish with use, because they are based on human commands and teachings.
If you have died with Christ to the spiritual forces of the world, why, as though you still belonged to the world, do you submit to its regulations: “Do not handle, do not taste, do not touch!”? — These will all perish with use, because they are based on human commands and teachings.…
If you have died with Christ to the spiritual forces of the world, why, as though you still belonged to the world, do you submit to its regulations: Touch not, taste not, handle not. These will all perish with use, because they are based on human commands and teachings.
Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.
So you too must count yourselves dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.
2 Corinthians 5:14
For Christ's love compels us, because we are convinced that One died for all, therefore all died.
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
We know that our old self was crucified with Him so that the body of sin might be rendered powerless, that we should no longer be slaves to sin.
But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet the Spirit gives you life because of righteousness.
And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections …
But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.
Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the Law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful man, as an offering for sin. He thus condemned sin in the flesh, so that the righteous standard of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. Those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh; but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.…
Therefore, my brothers, you also died to the Law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to Him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit to God.
So this is the principle I have discovered: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me.
But I see another law at work in my body, warring against the law of my mind and holding me captive to the law of sin that dwells within me.
What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death?
Thanks be to God, through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with my mind I serve the law of God, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin.
Romans 3:27 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? No: …
John 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.
And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.
"It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.
2 Corinthians 3:6
Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.
...and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God on the basis of faith. I want to know Christ and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to Him in His death, so that I may somehow attain to the resurrection from the dead.…
For if we have been united with Him like this in His death, we will certainly also be raised to life as He was.
And if we are children, then we are heirs: heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ--if indeed we suffer with Him, so that we may also be glorified with Him.
As it is written: "For Your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered."
2 Corinthians 1:5
For just as the sufferings of Christ overflow to us, so also through Christ our comfort overflows.
Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
From now on let no one cause me trouble, for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus.
until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God, as we mature to the full measure of the stature of Christ.
More than that, I count all things as loss compared to the surpassing excellence of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ.
1 Peter 4:13
But rejoice that you share in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed at the revelation of His glory.
2 Peter 1:3
His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.
2 Timothy 2:10
For this reason I endure all things for the sake of those who are chosen, so that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus and with it eternal glory.
2 Corinthians 4:11
For we who live are constantly being delivered over to death for Jesus' sake, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh.
Now this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent.
Now if you don't think these verses were teaching against living under law as a rule of life, you would be hard pressed to explain just where they would then even fit into the Christian life. If those verses are not a picture of modern legalism in all it's blazing self congratulating glory, then just who is God talking about? I made this video for those who have ears to hear. Because there are those who will.
Now...I know that there are some who are no doubt wondering why, if we are not under law but grace, are we told to do this and that, or not do this or that. So here is the truth. The Bible is not an instruction book on how to live the Christian life. It is the revelation of the perfect, finished work of Christ; a picture of the life of our Savior as He lives His life in and through us. Furthermore, it is not some so called "deeper" life, but is the normal Christian life. The life that God has given us. It defines the freedom we have been given in Christ. And repudiates a life enslaved by the bondage of legalism.
